Art show of Carol Whitney starting on October 11th, 2007.
Ten years ago, after selling my retail shops, I went back to school this time art school. I attended classes in life drawing and painting for two years in London at City Lit in Covent Garden (since merged with Central St Martins School of Art and Design) and assembled a portfolio. My portfolio and I were accepted into City Lits Fine Arts program. After another two years, I had completed the program and headed home to Cayman to paint.
The pictures I presented for my student show in London were all abstract with lots of thick layers of paint. For some time now I have painted realistically, in thin glazes, and this method gives me the clarity I want to portray. I held a solo show at the Caribbean Club called Rum in de Coconut.
I show my work frequently in VAS shows, as well at Art@Governors and my paintings have been purchased by collectors in the UK, Canada, US as well as locally.

Grand Old House to showcase winning chefs
In a bid to highlight the abilities of its talented chefs while at the same time giving them a well deserved pat on
the pack, Grand Old House restaurant is putting together a special dinner on 8th August for an intimate gathering of
a maximum of 50 people.
Cayman's annual Culinary Society competition, held in the middle of July, puts the spotlight on chefs and
bartenders across the island, giving them a forum in which they can display their talents. Award winning culinary
creations by Grand Old House chefs will form the basis on which the menu for this unique dinner will be created.
Grand Old House Manager, Martin Richter spearheaded the idea, saying: "The Culinary Society's competition allows
the wealth of culinary talent that we have here on the island to show through. This year Grand Old House chefs won a
total of 28 medals between them for a variety of dishes, including Best of Show and Best Showpiece (Gold - Chef
Tushara Jayalath) and silvers for Best Dessert (Head Chef Daniel Fink) Best Main Course (Chef Nicholas Rozario, Chef
Ali Sadiq and Chef Abhijit Dey)"
In order to show the talents of his staff to a wider audience, Richter decided to take the step of organizing a
dinner that encompasses as many of the winning dishes as possible.
He explains, "The dinner was a natural progression from the actual competition. Diners will be able to enjoy a
variety of dishes that were successful enough to win medals, including Chef Ali's Sunburst Mahi Mahi served with
black bean roti and Chef Daniel's Caribbean Banana Bonbon."
If you are interested in enjoying this special event the cost is CI$125 per person, with part of the proceeds to be
donated to the Culinary Society. This donation will help the organisation promote the culinary cause in the Cayman
Islands and beyond, as next year the Culinary Society intends to send a team of chefs to compete in Miami's Taste of
the Caribbean competition.
