Sheri and Grant Sheri and Grant in Cayman Islands

As residents of Southern California, Sheri and Grant were used to amazing sunsets and beautiful beaches. So when they decided to have a Caribbean island wedding they knew it would have to be somewhere special. The couple chose Grand Old House in Grand Cayman because of its romantic and intimate setting on the shore.

Twenty-five of the bride and groom's closest family and friends flew to Grand Cayman to celebrate. After several group activities—their favorite being a trip to a stingray sandbar—everyone convened for an elegant beach wedding with a traditional touch.

Sheri planned most of the wedding from California with the help of the Cayman Island–based wedding planners at Lions Productions. It wasn't until she walked down the aisle that she saw how everything came together. "I was in awe, just totally blown away," says the bride. "It really was a dream come true." —Cari Wolfert

The Grand Old House restaurant, built on a former coconut plantation is another fantastic option.  Its breezy seaside gazebo make a perfect wedding chapel.

Modern Bride:  Aug-Sept 2002

So for dinner I agreed to a major splurge at the elegant Grand Old House, where the seaside setting and Old World-meets-Caribbean cuisine thoroughly lived up to the restaurant's lofty name.  As we were led to our candlelit table on the white-washed terrace that twinkled with hundreds of tiny white lights.  She chose the lobster tail sauteed with shallots, mushrooms, and tomatoes in a beurre blanc sauce while I opted for the chargrilled tenderloin.  We complemented our dinner with a bottle of fine champagne.  The gourmet indulgence was classic Echo, and I ended the evening with a heartfelt toast to my lovely wife.

MOST CHARMING HISTORIC RESTAURANT Grand Old House is a 90-year-old, former plantation house that is a legend on the Island. A favorite place with locals, it is both warm and welcoming and romantic. I will remember the seafood duet I had a lunch as one my best meals in Cayman. Served with a passion fruit sauce over macadamia-covered mahi-mahi and grilled tuna, plus plantains and vegetables, this was probably my most native meal. Legend has it that every full moon a restless spirit of a former House inhabitant drops by for dinner. I can understand. I plan to go back, too.

Just down the road, the Grand Old House, a Georgian mansion build around the century, sits at water's edge. Today, its shady verandas and decks are a favorite gourmet dining spot as well as a popular location for nuptials-there's even a gazebo wedding chapel beside the sea.

Grand Old House: The Ferrari of the Cayman Islands restaurants. The house which is very grand, produces food that would be passable in the Savoy Grill. The Sea Bass was dreamy and the salads were to die for. The Grand Old House is for the big blow outs but worth every penny (or US cent). Beautiful views, an efficient service. This place is very popular with wedding parties as well.
