Grand Old House Honored with Wine Spectator Restaurant Award 2018
24 Apr 2019

One of the finest restaurants in Grand Cayman, Grand Old House, has been a Cayman Islands favourite for many years. Our elegant restaurant, which occupies a former plantation house dating to 1908, features a terrace on the Caribbean Sea, where guests enjoy selections from an exceptional Cayman wine list and waterfront fine dining with a stunning sunset view. Our location is the perfect setting for a romantic dinner, a festive brunch or a delightful lunch, all prepared by our top-rated chefs.

We are pleased to announce our latest achievement: As the recipient of the Best of Award of Excellence, a Wine Spectator Restaurant Award for 2018, we were among an elite list of “dining destinations that share a dedication to wine,” according to Wine Spectator (https://restaurants.winespectator.com/restaurant/2772/grand-old-house). Our restaurant was among one of 1,215 from more than 75 countries recognized for “lists that display excellent breadth across multiple regions and/or significant vertical depth of top wines, along with superior presentation,” according to Wine Spectator. “Typically offering 350 or more selections, these restaurants are destinations for serious wine lovers, showing a deep commitment to wine, both in the cellar and through their service team.”

We are proud to note that our collection includes more than 2,100 selections, with more than 25,000 bottles stored in our wine room. Some of the popular wines from our list include varieties from Spain, Italy, Australia, California, France and Germany. Examples include rosés such as Gérard Bertrand, Cote des Roses, Languedoc, 2016; Domaines Ott, Clos Mireille, Provence, 2016; Chateau Minuty, 281, Cote de Provence, 2014; and Antica Terra, Angelicall, Eola-Amity Hills, Oregon, 2015.

Popular whites include Domaine Zind-Humbrecht, Riesling, Clos Windsbuhl, Alsace, 1996; Didier Dagueneau, Pur Sang, Pouilly-Fumé, 2014; Château Mouton Rothschild, Aile d’Argent, Pauillac, 2013; Trimbach, Pinot Gris, Reserve, Alsace, 2011; plus Chardonnay blends from Umbria, Albariños from Spain, French Chablis, New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs and Australian Rieslings.

Among the popular reds are Marziano Abbona, Cerviano, Barolo, 2001; Château de Haute-Serre, Cahors, 1992; Primus, Cabernet Blend, The Blend, Colchagua Valley, 2014; Pinot Noir, De Loach, Heritage Reserve, California, 2016; Petite Syrah, Retro Cellars, Napa Valley, California, 2012; and Château Ste.
