Although many Caribbean islands have sought to lay claim to the title of culinary capital of the region, the Cayman Islands for some years now have been recognized as holding that honour.
Cayman’s Tourism Department notes that the culinary offerings on island have earned international recognition in such publications as Forbes, Food & Wine, USA Today, Vogue magazine and the Robb Report, among others. In addition, Cayman’s culinary team brought home gold medals from the 2018 Caribbean National Culinary Competition in Miami.
The local cuisine is hailed for its variety of flavors, the freshest fish - in the “sea-to-table” experience - and the freshest produce, bringing diners the farm-to-table experience. Restaurants in the Cayman Islands take great pride in working with local fishermen and farmers to bring the very best ingredients to their customers. According to tourism officials, there are more than 200 restaurants across the three Cayman Islands, offering diverse culinary experiences to please every palate.
Grand Old House is proud to be one of those restaurants, featuring some of the best food in the Cayman Islands. Situated along the Seven Mile Beach corridor, Grand Old House has been known for great food since 1969, when our historic plantation house was bought by several partners who turned it into a restaurant.
These days, the chefs at Grand Old House are known for their expertise in creating Cayman Islands cuisine. Consider such selections as sea bass with crabmeat bits and herb pressed potato au gratin; pan-roasted grouper with wasabi mashed potatoes and walnut lemon parmesan crusted vegetables; pan-roasted lobster with creamy Chardonnay sauce; bacon-wrapped local wahoo with shrimp risotto; and seafood curry. And our chefs also prepare vegan and vegetarian dishes to accommodate guests dietary needs.
To add to the experience of enjoying Grand Cayman cuisine, guests often choose to celebrate with Champagnes or sparkling wines. Among our extensive selections at Grand Old House are Cavicchioli Prosecco, Extra Dry and Bottega Prosecco, Gold, Brut, both from Veneto, Italy; Domaine Chandon, Brut, from California, USA; and from France, Mercier, Brut, Epernay; Piper-Heidsieck, Rose Sauvage; Veuve Clicquot-Ponsardin, Cave Privee; and Dom Perignon, Epernay, 2009.
Our wine list – numbering some 2,100 selections from around the world - and a host of top-line spirits are featured on our menu. Grand Old House also has an elegant private wine room that showcases our award-winning collection and seats up to 10 people.
Finally, don’t forget about dessert as part of the dining experience. Our chefs’ specialties include passionfruit cheesecake, red velvet chocolate lava cake and banana sticky toffee pudding. Pair dessert with a specialty coffee or a dessert wine, and enjoy the ambience while you indulge. Did we mention the atmosphere? At our waterfront restaurant, guests enjoy the stunning sunset over the Caribbean Sea, whether from our waterfront terrace or from one of our lovely private rooms.
